A DOCTOR who helped lead the seatbelt campaign was named a health hero.
Andy Lockey, clinical director of accident and emergency services for Calderdale Royal Hospital, was presented with a top NHS award for his work on the push to save lives.

And Health Secretary Alan Johnson, who presented the prize, praised the campaign, saying he hoped it could become a model for a national road safety drive.

Dr Lockey, of Ripponden, said: "It is an award for the campaign as a whole and I am very proud to have been a part of it.

Working in A&E we know only too well the dreadful consequences of not wearing seatbelts and the unnecessary injuries – sometimes fatal – that can be caused."

The 39-year-old, who is based at Calderdale Royal Hos-pital, was put forward for his out-of-hours work with the hard-hitting campaign to encourage teenagers to wear seatbelts.
