Brooksbank School Sports College was Calderdale's only representative at the first-ever English Schools Fell Running Championships at Sedbergh School in North Yorkshire.
And it was Year 9 pupil Bradley Traviss who stole the show with an outstanding display of technical running on the local fell, Winder, which stands at an impressive 1,551 feet high.
Traviss, competing in only his second competitive fell race, surp
rised everyone by working his way through the field to pick up a bronze medal.
He flew down the final steep descent and then held off his nearest rival for a podium finish, recording an impressive time of 23.03 minutes for the 2.6 mile course. The eventual winner was Kristian Edwards of Rawlett CSC in 22.11 minutes.
The Year 8 and 9 squad also managed to secure thirrd place in the overall team prize.
Following Traviss was Jacob Ragan in 17th, Matthew Roulson in 35th, Tom Wilde in 64th and Tom Duffy in 93rd place.
In the Year 10 and 11 race, Matthew Barker was the first to finish for Brooksbank in 46th place, closely followed by team mate Steven Avinou in 57th. Amee Marsh was the school's only female representative in the same race, finishing in 22nd position. Brooksbank's Rachel Bradley was also 11th in the Year 12 and 13 race.
