WHILE Calderdale may have missed out on the first places at the 10th annual West Yorkshire Youth Games, they certainly impressed with their high standard of sporting etiquette by claiming three Fair Play awards.
The accolades were richly deserved as the Calderdale youngsters showed exactly the right attitude towards both their own performances and those of their rivals.

Taking the plaudits were All Saints in the Year 4 tennis section with the Years 7-9 and 10-11 badminton participants also scoring highest.

Calderdale competitiors did manage second places in the New Age Kurling and under 11s netball to crown a fine day that saw 650 children representing the region's five local authorities competing in one of the most exciting fixtures in the county's sporting calendar at Leeds Metropolitan University's Carnegie campus.

Nigel Harrison, Director of West Yorkshire Sport said: "Once again The Youth Games has proved hugely popular and the opening ceremony really helped everyone get into the spirit of the Games.

"The level of competition this year was as high as ever and the standard of play was outstanding.

"West Yorkshire boasts some great up and coming young sportspeople and who knows how far these children will take their talents?"
