HALIFAX Irish Whites under eights won their first trophy - the 'B' section at the Shipley Tournament - to the delight of coaches Steve Bradley and Paul Budgen.
In only their second season they breezed through the pool group winning all six games against home team Shipley, Bradford Park Avenue and Norristhorpe, scoring 29 goals and conceding only four.

In the semi final they dispatched another Norristhorpe side 2-0 to make it to their first ever final.

In that final against Shipley, who they had beaten twice in the group stage, Jack Chesters scored for Irish but Shipley levelled to take the game to penalties.

Brandon Jackson, Jack Chesters and Kyle Helliwell kept their cool to score from the spot and with Irish keeper James Langley saving all three of the Shipley penalties, his side won without Corey Budgen or Luke Bradley having to try their luck from the spot.

The win was richly deserved after a season in which the team lost just five of their 22 games played.
