KING Cross Park under 18s put in a much improved performance but still went down to a 28-22 defeat against Queensbury.
Queensbury opened up a 6-0 lead but Cross replied when good backing up by Pat Gilligan saw him cross in the corner for an unconverted try.
Cross pressed hard and both Danny Fleming and Gilligan were held up over the line. However, they fell 18-4 b
ehind when Queensbury scored two quick tries in the lead up to half time.
Cross started the second half confidently and they swept the ball wide to the left with skipper Peter Garside taking the inside ball to race behind the posts, Fleming adding the extras.
Queensbury soon scored again when slack tackling allowed them to score from close in and Cross then lost influential hooker Gilligan with a head wound.
However this seemed to spur Cross on and after pressure on the Queensbury line, Greg Sladdin powered over and with Fleming adding the conversion Cross only trailed 24-16.
Cross seemed to be getting on top but Queensbury managed to break away and score in the corner before Sladdin added his second from close range, Fleming converting.
