OVENDEN under 14s secured their place in the next round of the Yorkshire Cup following a hard fought 14-10 success over Hull Wyke despite only having 11 men.
Ovenden proved to be the more determined side with strong forward running from Jordan O Halloran, Callum Pearce, Stephen Crawshaw, and Macauley Higgins setting the platform to send Connor Dewhirst over for the first try. Both defences impressed for l
ong spells until Hull were rewarded with a try to level the score at 4-4.

Ovenden put Hull under pressure with good strong running from Cade Durkin, Nathan Brown, Reece Ogden and Connor taking Ovenden up field into Hull's 10 metre line. A quick play the ball saw Macauley Higgins power over the whitewash for a well worked try to make it 8-4.

Ovenden started the second half strongly but with the loss of Elliot Hoyle to injury it wasn't long before Hull came back with a converted try giving them the lead at 10-8.

Ovenden overcame the odds with great team work and ball handling seeing Nathan Brown score an intercepted try with Connor adding the extras.

Tempers became fraught resulting into Ovenden losing Connor to a straight red and Hull losing their number 11.

King Cross Park came out on top in their first ever meeting with York Acorn - a 42-6 outcome seeing them through to the next round.

Tom Johnstone blasted through a gap from close range to open the scoring, Alex Mellor converting

Mellor then hit Milner with a short ball and he made good yards before flicking a great pass out to Haswell who finished the move off with a try. Soon after Mellor launched an almighty up and under which the winger struggled to defuse in the face of the on rushing Dewhurst who took the ball from him and narrowly failed to score, getting hauled down just short of the try line by the covering full back.

Josh Hunt quickly scooted away from dummy half to evade the defence and found a gap on the left side to touchdown from close range, Mellor again added the extras.

Park did not allow their opponents to settle and the score was increased on the stroke of half time when Acorn were penalised for offside at the play the ball in their own 25. Swaine took a quick tap and ran the ball, handed onto Brook who fed Johnstone for him score his second try making it 20-0 to Park.

Another attack, engineered by a short pass from Brook to Dewhurst, saw the latter charge over from halfway, Mellor converting.

Acorn's stand off Jack Anderson scored a classy try and added the conversion to make the score 26-6.

Hunt put Park back on their way with a jinking run and Dewhurst took a great short ball from Milner to score his second try. Mellor goaled.

Ryan Crabtree then stole the ball on contact but the ball went behind him and as everyone stood and watched Johnstone scooped it up for a great try to complete a hat-trick of tries which Mellor again converted.

The visitors were caught offside late in the game and Swaine took a quick tap and handed onto Brook who handed on to Johnstone for his fourth and the team's final try.
