A HALIFAX shop manager is hoping her store's success in a national competition will put the town firmly on the shopping map.
Tina Kidd and staff at Wallis, in Harveys, have beaten off competition from 23 other Wallis stores and concessions to be named area winner of Store Team of the Year in the Wallis Has Got Talent contest.
She and her five employees were delighted to have triumphed over much larger branches including Meadowhall, Sheffield, and the Arndale Centre in Manchester.
They were tested in a range of different areas including visual merchandising, sales, stock loss and many other aspects of retail over the past 12 months and achieved 100 per cent in most areas.
Now the team is gearing up to compete for the regional title in the North against five other area winners and Wallis regional bosses will visit the store this week for the judging.
The winners from the three regional finals – North, South and Ireland – will then battle it out for the national title, with the winning manager receiving £4,000 and the rest of the staff £1,500.
Tina, who has worked at Harvey's department store for 12 years and managed Wallis for six years, said: "It has huge prestige.
"There are 280 Wallis stores across the UK so we have already done very well but we are confident we can go further.
"The important thing about all of us here is that we love our job."
The staff have already received support from Harvey's, customers and other local organisations including Halifax RLFC.
Harveys deputy manager Tony Murray said: "We are amazingly proud of Tina and her team and that's why we are giving them our maximum support.
"They are up against stores from large towns, real shopping meccas. Their success will put Halifax and Harvey's on the map," he said.
