Bowls: Hickey and Hitchen fail to hit high spots

Darren Griffiths, the 2005 winner of the Vital services classic at New St Littleborough cruised into the last 16 last Sunday when he beat former Yorkshire merit winner Graham Hickey 21-11 to book a place in the July 13 final showdown.
Joining him there is Clive Chapman Heywood who staged the comeback of the day from 12-2 down to beat another Yorkshire player in Robert Hitchen.

Paul Firth (Mirfield) and Martin Hodson (Chadderton) were the other qualifiers.

This Sunday sees t
he last of the qualifying rounds (1pm start).

Last years runner up Richard Hobson (Hill Crest) heads a strong challenge from the Sowerby Bridge club, and with no fewer than eight entries from the Halifax area expectations are high that there will be some local qualifiers.
