AN excellent individual performance by Martin Bowers helped Halifax TTC Panthers to a superb 7-2 Pennine Tool Hire Halifax Table Tennis Summer League victory over BATS.
Bowers gave the Panthers a great start with a consistent 3-11, 6-11, 7-11 success over Shaun Forbes, only for Jack Dabrowski to put his side on level terms with his solitary success, an 11-3, 11-9, 11-8 win over Bob Woodhead.
Bowers' father Dave then won his first set with a very close 11-6, 11-3, 3-11, 8-11, 6-1 win against Allan Wright, which was followed by a win from Bowers junior who put his team two sets clear with a 4-11, 12-10, 5-11, 9-11 victory over Dabrowski.
The improving Forbes then won his only set with a four game victory against Bowers senior but Panthers then turned up the heat to win the remaining sets.
Firstly Woodhead won his first set of the night, 3-11, 11-6, 3-11, 2-11 over Wright, then Dave Bowers had the most notable of victories, beating Dabrowski in five very closely fought games 11-8, 9-11, 5-11, 11-6, 10-12.
Son Martin then claimed his maximum with a convincing 2-11, 2-11, 3-11 victory against Wright and in the final set Woodhead completed the triumph with a hard fought 1-11, 11-1, 4-11, 11-6, 10-12 win over Forbes.
In Division Two, there was another fine individual performance from Hugh Chambers of Keighley based Embassy C, but his outstanding effort accounted for nothing as his team lost their top of the table clash against HxTTC Leopards 5-4.
James Foster and Mick Mullins won two sets each and Matthew Stephens won the all important set to clinch the Leopards' win.
This season's AGM will be held at the TTC on Thursday, July 24 at 7.30 when the trophies for the Pennine Tool Hire winter league will also be presented.
Any proposed rule changes need to be received by league secretary Barry Snowden by July 7 by either email at barrysnowden@hotmail.co.uk or by post to 17 Brunswick Road, Pudsey, LEEDS LS28 7NA in order for them to be added to the agenda.
