LADIES had a special knees-up to celebrate 40 years as a club.
Members of the Southowram Ladies Methodist Club enjoyed a special buffet and caught up on days gone by at the anniversary event at New Street Community Centre, Southowram.

Photos of the group over the years were also displayed across the room as part of celebrations for the day.

Over 45 women aged from 45 and up attended the event which attracted members old and new.

Joan Firth, chairwoman of the group, said: "The night was a huge success. We even had a talk about the history of the group and about the speakers that we have hosted over the years."

The club first started as a young wives club and was named the Southowram Young Wives Club.

But due to increased popularity the group expanded and changed its name and became what it is today.

Mrs Firth said: "We started out at a Sunday club at Ash Day Lane and then moved to a small room in the church. Our final move was to the New Street Community Centre and we have been here ever since."
