Dominant display sees Town win 2-0 at Solihull Moors

FC Halifax Town picked up their second away win of the season with a dominant 2-0 victory at Solihull Moors.

This was Town's best performance on the road this season, capped off with second-half goals by Cruz Allen and Tommy McDermott.

The Shaymen picked up where they left off against Boston with a dominant first-half performance that somehow failed to produce a goal.

Two long throws were flicked on to Joe Sbarra at the far post within the first two minutes, both resulting in chances for Solihull, one needing a superb block and the other headed over.

But the hosts' decent start soon evaporated as Halifax took control.

McDermott then had a couple of chances, the second of which was a tame effort easily saved but the first should have put Town ahead rather than hitting the bar from the excellent Raheem Conte's low cross.

A poor pass by ex-Halifax defender Jevon Mills across his own box only found Conor Carty, who laid it off for Will Hugill, whose shot was blocked.

If that was a wasted opportunity, so was McDermott only hitting the side-netting at the far post when Conte's low cross had just evaded Carty.

Ben Tollitt and Carty both had efforts before McDermott missed his third big chance of the half when he was played in by the impressive Allen, but curled a left-footed shot just wide.

The half ended with Max Bardell's header at a corner being blocked just in-front of the line.

Tollitt twice went close at the start of the second-half, with a free-kick saved by Max Metcalfe and a shot from 20 yards just wide.

But The Shaymen kept plugging away, and when Mills made another error 30 yards out, this time it was punished as Allen sprinted into the box and calmly found the net.

It was no less than Halifax deserved, and neither was their second, a lovely free-kick by McDermott from the edge of the box after he'd been fouled.

Solihull already looked a beaten team with a quarter of the game left.

Carty nearly added a third from Tollitt's through ball but crashed a shot against the underside of the bar.
